Kid Creole and The Coconuts

KID CREOLE AND THE COCONUTS

Without doubt the musical fusion offered by Kid Creole and the Coconuts created one of the freshest new sounds of the 1980's.

Kid Creole August ‘Kid Creole' Darnell developed a unique blend of latin, reggae, calypso, disco, rap, rock, jazz, rhythm & blues and swing. He combines this with the singing, dancing Coconuts and a multi talented group of musicians and bursts onto the music scene with formidable force.

Kid Creole and the Coconuts' stage show is fresh and timeless packed with high energy, hyperactive innovation and fronted by the flamboyant persona of Kid Creole himself.

A former school teacher in Long Island , New York, August Darnell first hit gold with Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band before creating the outlet for his obvious talents Kid Creole and The Coconuts.

Their first album ‘Off The Coast Of Me', realised in 1980, began a career that has spanned the globe and spawned over 18 albums and countless singles since 1981.

From the musical trilogy of ‘Fresh Fruit In Foreign Places', the UK favourite ‘Tropical Gangsters' and ‘Doppelganger' to the eminently commercial ‘Cre-Ole' album of 1984, right up to his latest release ‘Perhaps too Cool to Conga,' Kid Creole and the Coconuts have brought infectious, ‘groove' orientated music to audiences who simply can't help but dance.

Kid Creole's popularity has never waned, and always popular in the UK, he was finally recognised in his own country with performances for two American presidents, namely George Bush and Bill Clinton.

Hits such as ‘Stool Pigeon', ‘I'm A Wonderful Thing Baby' and ‘Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy' remain as vibrant today as when they first hit the charts and the man who once rightly described himself as a ‘mega-mega-mega superstar' has broadened his horizons to create a new legion of fans.

His outstanding success in the West End hit ‘Oh, What A Night' proved his precocious talent was deeper than his larger than life pop image suggested, and rave reviews and packed houses all over the country were testimony to his ongoing appeal.

Today Kid Creole and The Coconuts are as fresh and innovative as ever, and with a new album already produced, he's ready to prove once more that Kid Creole and The Coconuts can out-sing, out-dance and out-groove anybody on the live circuit.
